Step-by-step guide to enrolling your child in a private school in Dubai. Based on official KHDA guidelines and common school requirements. This guide is for informational purposes only.
The school admission process in Dubai typically involves researching schools, checking age requirements (December 31 cutoff for 2026-2027), submitting an application with required documents (passport, visa, Emirates ID, school reports, immunisation records), completing any entrance assessments, and confirming enrolment with the registration fee. Most private schools accept applications year-round.

Each school in Dubai has its own specific admission process, timeline, and requirements. This guide covers the general admission process common to most private schools. Always contact your preferred school directly for their specific requirements. GetYourTutors does not facilitate school admissions — we are a private tutoring company providing this information as a free resource.
Review KHDA ratings, curricula, fee structures, and location. Visit school websites and attend open days where available. Consider your child's learning style and curriculum requirements.
Verify that your child meets the school's age cutoff (December 31 for 2026-2027). Contact the school admissions office to check seat availability for the relevant year group.
Complete the school's application form and submit required documents including passport copies, visa, Emirates ID, previous school reports, immunisation records, and photographs.
Many schools require entrance assessments for Year 2 and above, typically evaluating English and Mathematics. FS1 and FS2 admissions are usually observation-based.
If accepted, you will receive an offer letter. Confirm enrolment by paying the registration fee and any applicable advance tuition. Collect the school uniform and orientation details.
The school will register your child with the KHDA. For transfers within Dubai, a transfer certificate from the previous school is required. Ensure all fees at the previous school are cleared.
While specific requirements vary by school, the following documents are commonly requested during the admission process:
This list is for general guidance. Schools may require additional or fewer documents. International transfer students may need attested and equivalency certificates. Always confirm requirements directly with the school.
The KHDA sets minimum age requirements for school admission. The age cutoff was updated from 31 August to 31 December, effective from the 2025-2026 academic year.

School-to-school transfers within Dubai are regulated by the KHDA. To transfer your child, you will need to obtain a transfer certificate from the current school. All outstanding fees must be cleared before the current school can issue the transfer certificate.
For students transferring from schools outside the UAE, additional documentation may be required including attested school leaving certificates and equivalency certificates from the UAE Ministry of Education. The receiving school will assess grade placement based on the student's age and previous academic records.
