When & How to Get Your Results
Cambridge releases results to schools, not directly to students. Your school's exams officer receives the results and will communicate them to you — this may be via email, the school portal, or in person. Check with your school in advance about their results day process.
Results are typically available from early morning on results day. Some schools release them at a specific time; others make them available as soon as they receive them from Cambridge.
Understanding Your Grades
Cambridge IGCSE uses a 9-1 grading scale (9 highest) for most subjects, or A*-G for some legacy qualifications. The grade boundaries change every year based on the difficulty of the papers and how the cohort performed.
| Grade | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 9 / A* | Exceptional performance — top of the cohort |
| 8-7 / A | Excellent — strong understanding across all topics |
| 6-5 / B-C | Good to satisfactory — meets A-Level/IB entry requirements |
| 4-3 / D-E | Below average — may limit A-Level subject choices |
| 2-1 / F-G | Weak — consider retaking if the subject is needed for further study |
If You're Happy With Your Results
Congratulations! Your certificates will be despatched by Cambridge in mid-October 2026. In the meantime:
- Confirm your A-Level or IB subject choices for Year 12 with your school
- If applying to universities, your IGCSE grades will appear on your application
- Keep your results statement safe — you'll need it for university applications
If You're Disappointed
Don't panic. You have options:
- Talk to your school. Your exams officer can tell you how close you were to the next grade boundary. If you were 1-2 marks away, a remark may be worthwhile.
- Request a remark (see below) if you believe your paper was marked unfairly or if you were very close to the next grade.
- Retake in November 2026 — the next available sitting. You can retake individual subjects without affecting your other grades.
- Speak to your A-Level/IB coordinator. If your results don't meet entry requirements for your chosen subjects, there may be flexibility — especially if your school knows your potential.
- Get targeted tutoring. If you plan to retake, a focused 8-10 week programme with a specialist IGCSE tutor before November can make a significant difference.
Remarking (Enquiries About Results)
Cambridge offers Enquiries About Results (EAR) through your school. There are several types:
- Service 1 — Clerical re-check: Checks that marks were totalled correctly and all parts were marked. Fast turnaround.
- Service 2 — Review of marking: A senior examiner re-marks your entire paper. Your grade can go up, stay the same, or go down.
- Deadline: 20 September 2026
Important: Your grade CAN go down after a remark. If you're already close to a lower boundary, think carefully. Your school can advise based on your specific marks.
Retake Options
The next available IGCSE exam series is November 2026. Key dates:
- Late entries deadline: 21 September 2026 (just 3 days after results day — act fast)
- November results: ~Mid-January 2027
You can retake individual subjects. Your best grade counts — universities and employers see the higher result. If you're retaking, GetYourTutors can match you with a specialist IGCSE tutor for an intensive 8-10 week preparation programme targeting the specific areas where you lost marks.
What Your IGCSE Results Mean for A-Level/IB
Most schools require minimum IGCSE grades for A-Level or IB entry:
- A-Level entry: Typically grade B (6) or above in the subject you want to study at A-Level, plus a minimum of 5 IGCSEs at grade C (4) or above including English and Maths.
- IB entry: Similar requirements — most schools want grade B (6)+ in HL subjects and a strong overall IGCSE profile.
- Subject-specific: Sciences and Maths A-Level/IB HL typically require grade A (7-8) at IGCSE in the same subject.
If you're unsure whether your results meet your school's requirements, book a meeting with your school's sixth form coordinator immediately after results day. Early conversations give you the best chance of securing your preferred subject combination.
