How the double award works
0654 counts as TWO IGCSEs with one doubled grade; 0653 counts as one. Formula per option: threshold ÷ max weighted mark × 100 = boundary percentage (0654 max = 240; 0653 max = 200).
Worked example
You scored 150/240 (62.5%) on 0654 Extended. June 2025 AA thresholds ranged 143-148 (59.6%-61.7%) and A*A* 169-177 (70.4%-73.8%) across options. 150 clears AA on every option but sits well below A*A* — prediction: AA (secure), with the A*A* band roughly 8-11 percentage points above.

What is the difference between Combined Science 0653 and Co-ordinated Sciences 0654?
Combined Science (0653) is a SINGLE award — one IGCSE grade covering all three sciences. Co-ordinated Sciences (0654) is a DOUBLE award — it counts as two IGCSEs and issues doubled grades such as A*A* or BB. 0654 has roughly double the teaching content, which is why its papers total 240 weighted marks against 0653’s 200.
Why does my 0654 result show a single letter if it is a double award?
The calculator predicts the grade band using single letters for compactness — read A* as A*A*, A as AA, and so on. Cambridge sets one threshold per doubled grade, so the prediction logic is identical; only the certificate notation doubles.
What marks did an A*A* need in Co-ordinated Sciences?
In June 2025 the A*A* threshold ranged from 169 to 177 out of 240 weighted marks (70.4% to 73.8%) depending on the paper option sat. AA ranged from 143 to 148 (59.6% to 61.7%). The calculator compares your mark against every published option so you see the full honest range.
Can I get an A* on the Core tier in IGCSE science?
No. Core tier in both 0653 and 0654 is graded C to G (CC to GG for the double award) — C/CC is the Core ceiling. Students targeting A/A* grades must be entered for the Extended papers. If you are unsure which tier you are entered for, ask your school’s exams officer.
Why do the thresholds differ between paper options like BX and CY?
Each option letter is a different combination of components (for example option BX = components 21 + 41 + 51, while CY = 22 + 42 + 62). Cambridge sets thresholds per combination to keep standards equal when papers differ in difficulty — which is exactly why one universal "percentage = grade" claim is impossible and this tool shows ranges.
