What students usually need
The work differs from one course to the next. Younger children need the foundations of reading and writing, built patiently. Language students need comprehension, summary and directed writing on unseen passages. Literature students need close reading and essays that hold a real argument. IB students also need practice in speaking about texts for the oral. You should be able to mark a student's writing and show them exactly how to improve it. This role is English only: if you teach English, maths and science to primary-age children, see our Primary Tutor role.
